How to allow a browser camera and mic access (if disabled)

Request Live works through your web browser to provide you video and audio chat with no download necessary. For full functionality, your browser will ask your permission to allow it to use your webcam and microphone. If your browser doesn't prompt you or if you select any option other than allow access, here is a guide broken down by browser on how to turn access back on.

 

Desktop Operating System

Google Chrome
  1. Open Chrome Chrome.
  2. At the top right, click More More and then Settings.
  3. Under "Privacy and security," click Site settings.
  4. Click Camera or Microphone.
    • Turn on or off Ask before accessing.
    • Review your blocked and allowed sites.
    • To remove an existing exception or permission: To the right of the site, click Delete Delete .
    • To allow a site that you already blocked: Under "Blocked," select the site's name and change the camera or microphone permission to "Allow."
Safari

In the Safari app on your Mac, use Websites preferences to customize how you browse individual websites. To change these preferences, choose Safari > Preferences, then click Websites.

The settings you can customize (such as Camera and Microphone) are listed on the left.

To apply a setting to a website on the right, first select the setting, then choose the option you want from the pop-menu next to the website.

 

Camera

Ask: The site must ask if it can use the camera on your Mac.

Deny: The site can’t use your camera.

Allow: The site can always use your camera.

 

Microphone

Ask: The site must ask if it can use the microphone on your Mac.

Deny: The site can’t use your microphone.

Allow: The site can always use your microphone.
Microsoft Edge

To set permissions for a website on Microsoft Edge Chromium, use these steps:

  1. Open Microsoft Edge.
  2. Navigate to the website you want to manage.
  3. Click the Lock icon next to the website link in the address bar.

  4. Click the Site permissions option.

  5. Use the drop-down menus to allow permissions (such as camera and microphone)
  6. Click the Refresh button on the site to apply the changes.
Firefox
  1. Go to a site that wants to use your camera and mic.
  2. From the pop up, choose your camera and/or microphone.
    Tip: Click Remember this decision to set your selections as default.
  3. Click Allow.


Mobile Operating System

Safari iOS

Check camera access is enabled on iOS

  • Open the Settings app
  • Tap on Safari > Camera
  • Scroll down to Camera & Microphone
  • Confirm that "Ask" or "Allow" is checked  
  • Retry the "Refresh the call" steps, above.
Android/Chrome

Change a site's camera and microphone permissions

  1. On your Android device, open the Chrome app Chrome.
  2. To the right of the address bar, tap More Organise and then Settings.
  3. Tap Site Settings.
  4. Tap Microphone or Camera.
  5. Tap to turn the microphone or camera on or off.
    • If you see the site that you want to use under Blocked, tap the site and then Access your microphone and then Allow.

If you’ve turned off microphone access on your device, you can control your app permissions on Android to use your mic.
